Quick update on D-day...

Well, today is the baby's due date and obviously, I'm still very much pregnant considering I'm sitting at my computer writing this.  But with the countless questions and inquiries I've been getting, I thought I'd just give you a brief update, and hope that this will be the last I have to give before the big event. :)

I woke up this morning at around 4:00am with fairly intense contractions.  They lasted til about 6:00am but were very sporadic and inconsistent so I was pretty certain that I wasn't actually in labour.  Plus, everything stopped shortly after 6am and didn't start up again.  But I still felt quite optimistic because I had a doctor's appt. set for 11:40am and was going to have another membrane sweep.  At my last appt., my doctor found that I wasn't dilated yet but that my cervix was very soft and he was able to sweep about 1cm.  I figured with this morning's "false labour," and the "burst of energy" I got a few days ago (the final "nesting" period, so I'm told) that surely, this membrane sweep would do the trick.  Either that, or my doctor would find that I was already dilated at least a bit.  Alas, this was not the case.  I had already prepared myself for "bad news," but had still really hoped that he'd find I had progressed.  Unfortunately, I still hadn't dilated at all.  He said that the baby had moved down a bit more and was definitely engaged, and my cervix was again, very soft and easy to sweep (he was able to do 1cm again), but that was it.

So... if nothing happens in the next few days, I have an appt. set for Thursday in which he'll do another sweep, and if that doesn't do it, my induction has been set for Monday, June 29.  All I can do is pray that I don't go to induction--- for two reasons.  A) I would just really prefer to go into labour naturally, and B) Craig & Jen fly in that day and I really didn't want to be in hospital when they arrive.  So if you think of it, please send up a prayer that baby would join us sooner than Monday :)  And even better... tonight would be a great night to go into labour, as my doctor is on for labour/delivery at the hospital tomorrow and I would love to have him there to 'do the honours' :)

PS:  Sarah S. ... if you're reading this, I did try the stairs and will continue to do it.  I walked up and down our main flight of stairs 20 times the other night ('til my legs felt like jello and I was ready to puke!)  And that was after we had already gone for a long walk around the neighbourhood.  I went for another LONG walk at the river with my parents tonight and will climb our stairs 'til I'm blue in the face, if that's what it takes :)  At least its a healthy way of trying to bring on this baby!

Aaron is confident you will have it tomorrow...apparently he thinks he's always right...I figure if you didn't have it on the 19th, you can't let Aaron win, so either have it tonight before 12am, or wait one more day...can't wait, love you guys...

Well, we do have time to come to Chilliwack tonight anyways, and we are coming to dinner in Chilliwack tomorrow night so that really works with our schedule. Tell the little one that auntie is really busy but would LOVE to take time to greet him/her early in his arrival after Mommy has rested. I'm eagerly awaiting the news of a precious little one.

I imagine the waiting is killer...G was 4 days before due date, so it wasn't a long and drawn out process. I've heard bouncing on a fit ball is helpful too, as it puts pressure on the cervix. I'd bought one the day I went into labour but never blew it up. There was lots of squatting and bouncing, and lunging going on in our house that last week though. Hope that all the walking and stairs works soon!

Sabrina--- I have been bouncing on my exercise ball a lot the last few days :) I heard the same thing so it can't hurt to try!

Thought I'd pop on here and see how things are progressing. Sounds like you have all the advice you need. Just know I am praying for your little one to come soon, so Auntie Jen and Uncle Craig can be there to help and love the little darling! God Bless!

So unlike everyone else I am convinced that I had Alexis because I spent 2 days sitting on the most uncomfortable hard chair in this entire world :) I was scrap booking so it was tolerable, I also drank a TON...2 packages of juice boxes, liters of water and even a bit of Pop...(can you guess how often I went to the bathroom :) Anyways maybe its worth trying to sit somewhere very uncomfortable for awhile...it will at least give your legs a break from all the stairs you've been doing :) We are hoping baby Esau makes his/her appearance VERY soon :)

Like all other painful times in our lives, in retrospect this week will seem like nothing at all.

So slow it goes, but it's as forgotable as the labor as soon as it's over. Sleep lots and find something that makes you smile every day.

I think going into labor tricks are as effective a baby sleep tricks. Some things might work a little, but really -- your baby is going to sleep when it's ready too....

Praying for you. I know I sound like a broken record...but...that baby will come when he/she is cooked just right. Also...remember that you don't have to be induced if you don't want to be...it is totally normal for first babies to be 7-10 days late...getting induced just one week after your due date isn't necessary...YOU HAVE A SAY IN IT. Unless you or the baby are in danger (high blood pressure/low fluids, etc.), there is NOTHING wrong with waiting a bit longer. Analise was 13 annoying days late and Jameson was 9 annoying days late! UGH! BUT both of them were perfectly healthy when they were born...labor was quick...

Okay...that is my soap box...just remember, you have a say in what happens to your body...you can always push the induction out a few days more...better chance of it working.

Love you...so proud of you...looking forward to hearing all about your new little one!

*love the comments Niels and Erin keep leaving. ha ha!*
